I want to read a story

"Super 8" is a refreshing mix of old and new.

“Super 8” is directed by J.J Abrams (Star trek) and starring Joel Courtney and Elle fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The door in the floor). There’s a lot going on in this movie, with trying to balance character and plot development, so here’s the skinny:

A group of kids get together to shoot back yard movies, when… Enter train wreck and explosive beginning to a sci-fi story that’ll see the military cast as the bad guy, creeping in after a fleeing alien against the backdrop of a small otherwise normal town.

When the alien escape plot line involves main character: young Joe Lamb’s (Courtney) new and forbidden love interest (fanning), the kids are rallied to come to the rescue. Also, there’s blood, including a messy alien versus antagonist scene in a bus.

Super 8 evokes memories of movies past, with producer Stephen Spielberg’s ET coming instantly to mind. But this flick is more Nouveau old than the genuine article – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sure, this movie takes it’s time and has attention to detail – like its forefathers - but also adds updated schoolyard foul language and wonderful CG (if not, as always overdone at times).

Thankfully, when it comes to the aggressive outer space visitor, the team took on “less is more” in the way of graphics.

Mostly, the story does decently is suspending disbelief. There are some gaps near the end though that may make some have mixed feelings about the flick’s conclusion.

Overall, “super 8” is definitely worth a watch at 8.3/10 on scale. And watch out for Director J. J. Abrams’ trademark lens flares (where at times when light is seen on the screen it makes an effect… like in star trek). No wait, you can’t miss em, they’re pretty much everywhere.

5 Reasons Why You Should Own A Mannequin

Some ask, “Why own a mannequin?” I say, “why not?”  …Because it’s creepy and not very practical?  …please. Here’s a 5 point list that is in no way exhaustive and are darn solid reasons why you should spring for your own mannequin immediately.

Picture

#1
Use your mannequin as house security. Its lifelike appearance will startle most intruders. The feature is pretty much built in. But it’s not a new idea. McCauley Culkin used a variation of this use in misleading the “Wet bandits” into thinking the McCallisters were home.

In fact, a well placed mannequin can do more than scare off intruders. You can also use him to prank family and friends alike. Think of the look on dear old grandma’s face when she finds what you left her in the pantry.

Dress up your mute friend and he can be transformed into the life of the party! Throwing a paradise themed get-together? Throw on a tropical T-shirt on your mannequin and suddenly you’ve injected fun and whimsy into your event.

There’s no need to keep your pal private. Mix it up and use him as a stand in for webcam chat or bring him to a job interview.

Lastly, enjoy his presence. His warm companionship, while silent, can enrich your life if you let it. Take comfort in knowing that your anchor is right where you left him. Seriously, he can’t move unless you move him.

You might choose to use his unwavering attentiveness to test your public speaking skills, pick up lines or one liners. He even has use as a proof reader for online articles!

Will it suck when Titanics re-release squashes other movies' box office markers?

In case you didn't know, Titanic is actually being re-released, but this time even spiffier in 3d! see for yourself.
I'm certain that the mere sound of the bell at the trailer opening will send waves of nostalgia washing over many.

The kicker is that I'm fairly confident James Cameron al' do a great job on the 3D.

But what will it mean when the second go around STILL dominates at the box office?

Creating? Just do. Like right now!

The Dark Opera is about creativity as much as it is about dark works. To create. To do... requires energy and time.

Creating aside, there seems to be enough to do in a day to fill each waking hour.

Here’s the thing, there’s just about always time to devote to your passion.

But still, it doesn’t get done. The key here is your behaviour, thoughts and your feelings.

Ever plan to dedicate an hour to your interests and find you come up short on time? Does it mean you’re on to other things? Happens to everyone. The real question here is do you have to have a full hour at your disposal to do what you love to do?

Does a page a day of writing challenge often yield sighs of frustration? Make it a paragraph instead.

Part of the problem is rigid goal setting. Failure of those goals most always leads to a drain in motivation.

Another issue is the question of why is it that you are creating? Looking to make it big? Sure, many of us are. But if you're finding your imagination has fizzled out or you’re hitting a block, then maybe it’s that mind set that’s to blame.

Why was it that you like to do what you do again?

THAT reason is sure to ignite creativity more then, “Let’s make a product that’ll sell” Focus on the latter and you may find yourself getting bogged down by harsh criticism and strict standards. Sure, you need those things to grow in a professional sense, but while you’re generating and simply creating for the love of creating, forget about it.

And what about that feeling... The one that you're too tired, too busy, too whatever. You already know that you can still do when you’re all of those things. And if you don’t, then maybe it’s time you test that nagging belief that you can’t produce anything cause you’re not in the mood.

Don’t worry about thoughts or feelings. Just do. Yes, now.
