'The Maker' Short will Make you Think

“Creativity is essentially a lonely art. An even lonelier struggle. To some a blessing. To others a curse. It is in reality the ability to reach inside yourself and drag forth from your very soul an idea.” ~Lou Dorfsman

The most important and hardest part is then bringing it to life...

Movie Shorts can be so accessible, eh? Easily  watched on Youtube or Vimeo and won’t demand an hours worth of your attention. But as compact as they are, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t always easy to digest. That they’re more likely to be consumed means a great potential for deep impact.

Here, director Christopher Kezelos makes a wonderfully stylistic piece of creativity that reminds of Tim Burton and strangely too ‘The Prestige’. Perhaps it’s because of the attention to detail and thoughtful message  despite the characters not even having said a word. A great piece of stop motion work! Christopher also made the short, “Zero” which shares the theme of birth and has that emotional undertone. You can find it by Clicking HERE.

As per the Youtube channel, "The Maker has screened at over 60 festivals and won 11 awards."

Some dark "Backwater Gospel" gruesomeness to get you through friday

Here’s a great piece of horror just in time for Friday. Sure, its been around since 2011, but in case you missed it, this grim, old western, god fearing, gruesome piece of animation will be sure to taint this gateway day to the long week end… in a dark but good way!
Sure, the concept of narrow minded, “Wrath of the church” is a tired one, and the blood spilling bordering on excess, but the artwork is too damn pretty not to be entranced by. The undertaker’s character, top hat, bike and all was great, especially the glimpses of its black wings expanded!

I’d be interested in hearing more about the feature length script that was mentioned at the beginning of the vid above. More along the lines of “The Backwater Gospel” sounds like a good thing.

The vid’s Directed by Bo Mathorne and produced at the Animation Workshop. Big thanks to my friend, Crystal, for sharing this dark clip with me.

Can't Miss Vids: A Little Creepy and a Little Quaint

I came across this lovely little peace of creepy today. In the spirit of guessing what's inside of things, this short by Rok Predin will get you thinking about if you really know what's inside of say... a grassy mound with a pretty tree to the left of it. Take a look:
Is it just me or were you expecting something a little more sinister behind each unveiling too? More sinister than a chopped leg and shoe inside of a crocodile? yea, that was pretty good actually.

Because I'm a sucker for creepy and quality, the short was enough to draw me to the Trunk Animation LTD website it was linked to. There I found this quaint "...Petit Tribute of friends to the film: Where the wild things are". I posted it right here:
Wasn't that nice?

In case you're asking, What is Trunk? As per their website, "Trunk. A mixed media production company working with a group of artists and directors to create visual imagery intended to delight and inspire."

Visit the Website here: http://trunk.me.uk/
It's worth looking through the collection of shorts there. I can personally recommend "Whistless" as a cute and charming entry. "The Whistler"  is creepy.

Return to Rapture! Don't Miss this Bioshock Short.

If you’ve ever visited the fallen city of Rapture, it’s likely that you succumbed to it’s inviting charm, eerie atmosphere and awe inspiring environment. Jared Potter, Director of the Bioshock Short below put it best when he wrote, “The story, the characters, the world created by the team at 2K and Irrational left an impression on me unlike any game I’ve ever played”.

Ready to revisit Rapture?

“New Years End”, The Bioshock Short you’re about to watch, is as Jared put it “Not a parody, not a fake trailer mashup of other people’s work, but a truly original creation set within the world of the games”

Take a look for yourself:
Excellent. And what a perfect example of how creativity can inspire others to expand on an original work in a new and creative way, complimenting the original piece while having the potential to add new depth.
