Poems can be a source of inspiration and motivation amongst many things. Some times, when there's something in a poem that really resonates with you, revisiting it might even be therapeutic. To say the least, I am very fond of Robert Frost's “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” which I find perfectly captures the feelings associated with being on the go and longing to stop and smell the roses.
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
By: Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Those who might not know “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” might be more familiar with Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay” from their school days, or even “Fire and Ice” as used in the Twilight Saga. Perhaps still you have written somewhere his “The Road Not Taken” to remind you of where you’ve been and where you’re going.
